new fuel

After a run on monday, the first in quite a while, Jerry offered me a smoothie. He made it with soy milk and it was great. So, like any good American consumer, I went to the store monday night and bought my own container. Now I have had my own soy milk smoothies two mornings in a row. This stuff is great. I have also been using it in my coffee for a change of pace.
I have not made such a change as a political type statement. I am not going vegan, nor do I think I am cut out to be a true health nut today, but, hopefully there will be more benefit than just a nice tasting smoothie each morning.

In other news:

I got two more days in on the snow this weekend during our youth trip to Snowshoe WV. It was pretty cold, but we had a great weekend skiing and hanging out with each other. This is the group of course. In my future, I still have one free pass I can use at Snowshoe and I won 2 free passes to Canaan Valley resort, which means at least 3 more days on the snow for me, or a day with a friend. So, if you are a friend, and would like to make the trek to Canaan with me one day in the next few weeks, let me know. I'll drive and provide the lift ticket, you just rent skis or a board and we'll have a day.

Finally:
Duke has lost 4 games in a row. The Blue Devil faithful like me are saddened at our inability to close the deal in the first 2 losses (or 3 depending on how you view the Carolina game in which we far out-played them the 35 minutes of the game, only to squander the last 5 minutes), and then getting completely outplayed on Sunday by the evil Maryland Terrapins. Hopefully we can pull an upset over BC tonight in Boston. Maybe K is singing the Augustana song: I think I'll go to Boston, I think I'll start a new life... We need a fresh start quickly. Go DUKE!!!

off main...

Well, there is another blog to add to your list of reading. My wife is beginning to compile a family blog for the two of us. We are buying a home a block off main street and this momentous event is part of the impetus for this blog. I will be a contributer and it might be fun for you to keep up on what we are doing, not just what we are thinking.

On to my thinking...
I don't like the basketball teams from the University of North Carolina. I can stomach their other teams. I appreciate their scientific, academic, and scholarly achievements, but I cant like their ball teams. They beat my DUKE ball team tonight and it makes me a little upset.

Skiing this weekend. Looks like the east coast is in for some good skiing weather, so I cant wait to hit Snowshoe on my snowboard once again.

More some other time, right now, I am going to add the off main link and surf the net for tips on home repair.

Yesterday was a snowday for the kids here in Surry County. A crippling winter storm was forecast and we were all instructed to sit in our living rooms and watch our front years with peril as the accumulations would reach 4-6 inches before the dreaded 1/4inch of freezing rain was to fall.
I dont mock the weather, it is powerful thing which I have no influence over. I mock the weather people who have been threatening us about nothing for 4 days now. Swing and a miss!!!

But I have caught the bug, the snowboard bug that is. This January we spent 4 days in Summit County Colorado and I got to ski in the Rockies for the first time. WOW, is the only word to describe it. In the pic above, I am hiking towards the Outback to ride the North Bowl. We only got to do it once during the week, but I cant wait to do it again.

Since I have been back I have been to our humble, southeast, ski hills twice. Last week I traveled to Boone and Beech Mountian for a day of miserable conditions and chunky ice. Out here, those are the days you pay your dues. Yesterday day, after watching no snow stick to my frontyard, I decided to take the snow matters into my own hands and I made the 100 mile trek to Winterplace WV for an afternoon/evening of boarding. It was a fun night. Lines were relatively non-existent and I was able to ride freely, cranking the tunes through my new helmet which has built in speakers. What fun. What a snowday.

Next weekend is our annual youth trip to Snowshoe so we will get to ski the 'big mountian' for the weekend. I cant wait, I wish it was this weekend.

I have also been working, in my mind, on a spiritualtiy project with this riding addiction I have. It is such sabbath for me, and I am trying to figure out how to put it in words that are constructive for myself and others who sometimes feel like what they are doing is indulging in the eyes of others, yet is totally life-giving and necessary for their own sanity.

More and more I am finding out that my head is an interesting place, even without a helmet pumping tunes to it.

This bug also filtered into the 6 hours of Winter X Games snowboarding I watched last weekend. Hope you saw Shaun White and Steve Fischer duel on the Half-pipe, it was great.

Well, thats all for now. Hope you are well, thanks for reading.<
