blog 2- 40 blogs of purpose

authors note:
i have whined periodically about the lack on internet access at my home. it does kinda bite, but it saves alot of money and forces me to find cool places like helios, cupajoe and third place. the lack of access will prevent me from finishing 40 blogs in 40 days, but, i will definitely be bloggin 40 times over the next 2 months.

on to todays blog

for texans in diaspora, the truest place to get a taste home is chilis. personally, if i could only eat at one restauraunt for the rest of my life, chilis would make the top 5. everytime i walk out of there i get the restuarant buzz. The restuarant buzz goes a little like this:
internal monologue- man, that was a great meal and a great expereince. everytime i eat there it is great and i am glad i spent the money. Why dont i come here more often? when can i come next? where did i park? will all those chips give me gi problems tomorrow? who cares, that was awesome.

Chilis is the generic texas restuarant for us kids from the suburbs. all of lifes important events were marked at chilis: birthday parties, after church gatherings, post-game meals, first dates and my families favorite- "bad momma."

bad momma what what my youngest brother called my mom after she gave him a jalepeno and told him it was a pickle- he was 3. it is a legendary story in our family and one of my earliest chilis memories.

SO, next time you need to eat, and cant decide, hit chilis. there is something for everyone and you can have a plate of the best chips and salsa this side of heaven. peace

blog 1- 40 blogs of purpose

I sit this fine afternoon at cup A joe coffee shop in Raleigh NC, embarking on a journey which will likely turn out to be more work and farse than actual joy and comedic satisfaction that I envisioned when this idea was birthed several weeks ago.
Aside- When I thought up this idea, it really made me laugh. I thought: this is genius, 40 blogs of purpose, like, the purpose driven 40 days of purpose. I could give 40 days to creative thinking and writing, and give an insight to the solitary individual reader into who I actually am. This is sure to be great. But, what then? Maybe I should quite, like the lifecycle of a star, one last hurrah –SUPERNOVA- then poof, blackhole. Well, I will figure that our later.

Alas, here I am, writing, with coffee, the nectar of life, I hope to give you a few laughs, some devotional thoughts, and ultimately, help you pay better attention to the things in our lives that deserve appreciation.

I would like to lay out a few guidelines and points of clarification for myself:
1. I probably wont get to post everyday. I will be traveling to DC and DFW in the next 3 weeks and possibly wont have a computer. Treat this time like some do their One Year Bibles or their experiencing god the day before a meeting: missed three days in a row-gottacatchupreallyfastallinoneday…
2. Read what I got, and hey, try to comment once in a while. Help a brother out by tempering my thoughts with some analysis of your own.
3. think about what I say and see how it relates to your life. Your appreciations probably are not mine, but you should certainly have a few. FIND THEM.
4. I have, in the last 5 minutes, convinced myself to read the purpose driven life over the next 40 days. I don’t like it, “it’s not about me,” but if I am going to be a critic, I should know what I am critiquing.
5. read and pray. You should read, probably even some scripture not in the sacred pages of the NYTimes or Rolling Stone. If you need help, there is stuff online, and the Book of Common Prayer’s devotions for individuals and Families is really good. Get something and start your day with prayer, and will try to as well.
6. Don’t take any of this too seriously, really, it’s a free blog. But have fun.

Have a great ride here, welcome to 40 blogs of purpose.
