I have been "Living Strong" for about 9 months now (I started in May of last year), but I am starting to wonder if this idea had run its course, or if it has only just begun.

The fad started after le Tour de France was over and Lance had won number six (you can be on a first name basis if you have read one of his books, I think). Everyone who was anyone was searching for these things in August and September. You could get one from ebay for $25 if you wanted it.

The Breast Cancer foundations picked up next, which I was happy about because it was like equal access and support. But, now the Heart foundatins have caught on and are trying to raise money this way.

My Observations.
I am really thankful for what this bandwagon, or wristband-wagon as our paper dubbed it, has done. We are all much more aware of these foundations and the causes they support. This is a good thing. I have not really missed the 5 dollars I spent on Live Strong Bracelets that I gave away. I am thankful that the Lance Armstrong Foundation has raised over $20 million dollars for cancer research, all by getting the equivalent of the change out of our couches and ashtrays.
But, I wish some of these other groups would come up with other creative ways to raise money. Now we have the Love your heart band for our local hospital, WakeMed, and a Red band for BE ACTIVE North Carolina. I wonder if I will get caught "Red-Banded."

SO, If you have a foundation out there, figure out the next big thing, I will even blog about it, and support it with my spare dollar. Just dont come up with something that is too uncomfortable, we are happier with status symbols for good causes.

Love, Chris

Happy Mardis Gras!!!
