rotation
The world has been rotating on its axis which is thankfully orienting itself toward the sun in such a way as to allow cooler weather to invade the Carolinas. The cold rainy stuff that you think of when you think of the sad scenes of Good Will Hunting or Dead Poets Society is about my favorite type of weather around here. I also love the low humidity 78 degree days when I can peacefully play golf, but that just feels like I am cheating.
I posted, or at least I thought I did on Saturday night after Baylor's win. My intention was to place the Sox Logo next to the Bears logo with the simple statement: "If hell is going to freeze over, icicles are forming." Maybe it was funnier on Saturday night after a glass of wine.
This week I also wanted to post a few times but the internet was down. Therefore, I will fill this post a little more.
I played the role of Pastor/Preacher on Sunday at ZBC. It was a good sermon bringing together the baptist freedom of Religious Freedom and the church calendar's All Saint's Service. It was a good sermon, and well delivered. I did not let my natural tendency to try to be funny in a difficult situation trump my well written and delivered sermon. Looking back, some might say it was a coming of age day. It is a bit pretentious to write that about yourself, but Sunday was different than before and in a reverent, holy, worshipful way.
Monday brought Natalie back from TX and errands.
Tuesday, was work at church and College bible study at the house here.
Wednesday was a depressing day...I voted blue. In my depression I cleaned and organized my office. It is much nicer now and I can actually find and use my books.
Today, instead of tearing in to some of my rediscovered books, I began the process of "cracking the GRE" which I plan to take in December, just for kicks you know. I also purchased The Life of Pi and Kyle Lake's new book. I am reading Kyles now and like to think I had a small part in the beginnings of this book about an antiformulaic relationship with God. We used to eat lunch on Wednesdays at crickets and play 9-ball and shuffle board. That kid always won, but that is the way he is. He also used to diffuse some of the guilt my background taught me I should have since I didn't read scripture and especially My Utmost for His Highest everyday. Now, that I have tasted beer and wine, either my guilt has gone away or I dont care as much. I love God, but cant do the rigid thing no matter how hard I try.
So that is where I am. The Independent, our local, weekly, free, liberal, newspaper is in front of me with a pic of George and dick on the cover with the headline: Heaven Help Us. Clearly God already has helped us, and I am undecided regarding God's role in American politics, except to say that I believe it to be blasphemy for any Christian to say that: "George W. Bush (or any other politician for that matter) is God's man for the job." I dont know, he doesnt fit the mold of Moses. More like Peter or Paul.
Finally, I watched Snoops new movie, Soul Plane. It was funny but a bit of a waste of time. The cultural critique is funny but sad. The story is stupid and mildly entertaining. It wasnt a waste of money, but try to get your friend to pay for it if you think you want to see it. Thats all for now, and it is actually a lot.
Peace,
